One thing that always amazes me is how the mainstream media misreports winter accidents. Almost consistently they blame winter time accidents on “bad road conditions”. Rarely do the press stories mention whether or not the involved driver had winter tires.
This reporting sets up unrealistic expectations for Americans. They expect that no matter how intense the winter storm, the roads should be bare, and if they are not, then “the road crews are not doing their jobs.”
The reality is that if all drivers had winter or all-weather tires (not all season tires) there would be a lot fewer “accidents” to report.
