You may have noticed from my last entries that I have become a fan of the Nokian Hakkapeliitta tires. Well, it's true. So much so that I have equipped my two other vehicles with Hakka tires. In addition to my 2008 GMC Sierra we now run Hakkas on a 2000 GMC Yukon XL and a 2002 Subaru Forester. I admit it was a bit of an expense. Having the knowledge that my wife and my teenagers benefit from the same safety I enjoy in my truck is very much worth it to me. If only I could get my insurance company to give me a discount for this. Each of my vehicles now have so much more confidence on the roads that Alaska enjoys in the winter. I have several friends that run the latest, supposedly greatest winter tires from companies like Bridgestone, Cooper, Firestone, Michelin etc. that have driven my truck and expressed their wish that they had known about these tires before purchasing. Big marketing budgets aside, I can say without a doubt that the most popular winter tires sold here in Alaska are not the best. If you are reading this and you are contemplating the purchase of the best winter tire you can get for your vehicle...now you know. For me, the best equipment for the convenience and safety of my family makes sense.
